The Idaho Vandals came close to knocking off Wyoming of the Mountain West last Saturday in Laramie before losing 21-16. The vandals actually scored the go ahead touchdown late in the fourth quarter to take a 22-21 lead but it was called back by penalty.

So what did Idaho learn? First of all head coach Paul Petrino learned that his son Mason is his best quarterback so Mason now has the starting nod.

Petrion also said he learned his team has heart and fight, both of which they'll need Saturday when the Vandals host Eastern Washington in the Kibbie Dome, 1 p.m. kickoff here on Sports Radio 630 The Fan.

The Vandals lead the all time series with Eastern Washington 15-7 but last year in Cheney the Eagles beat Idaho 38-14.

While both Idaho and Eastern Washington are in the Big Sky Conference, tomorrows game is not a conference game. The two schools both had an open date and decided to play this year despite the league not being able to schedule them for conference action in 2019 in light of Idaho returning to the Big Sky just a year ago.

None the less Saturdays game in the Kibbie Dome is huge for both teams. Idaho trying to prove their close call in Laramie was because the Vandals have improved rather than a lack of respect from the Cowboys.

Eastern is trying to shake off a 49-45 loss at Jacksonville State last week and a 1-2 start. Despite that record the Eagles are ranked 11th in the latest FCS poll.
