Broncos Moving on Up!
Boise State's 45-10 win over Portland State Saturday allowed them to move up a pair of spots in both the media and coaches football standings.
The Broncos are now ranked 20th while their Group of 5 nemesis UCF is 15th. Boise State is 3-0 and will play on a short week as they host Air Force Friday night at 7 p.m.
Air Force, always a tough draw for Boise State, is coming off a 30-23 overtime win at Colorado of the Pac-12.
Meantime, Boise State's defense was once again stellar in the second half of a game. The Broncos haven't given up a point in the second half through three games, Florida State, Marshall and Portland State.
Boise State defensive lineman Curtis Weaver was a beast finishing the game with four quarterback sacks
Boise State has allowed just 132 total yards of offense in the six quarters of the first three games. That's and average of 44 yards allowed each half.
Boise State true freshman quarterback Hank Bachmeier continues to take a beating but continues to win. Bachmeier helped the Broncos to a 28-10 lead before being replaced by red-shirt sophomore Chase Cord who threw for two touchdowns. ESPN mentioned during their Saturday broadcast that Bachmeier had taken more hits than any other FBS qb.
Cord also came in for one play in the second quarter and scored a rushing touchdown to give BSU a 14-3 lead.
Boise State head coach Bryan Harsin says there is no quarterback controversy but the plan was to play Cord a significant amount of time against the Vikings and the 28-10 lead allowed that to happen.
As mentioned, the Broncos have a short week to prepare for the option offense of Air Force. Boise State and the Falcons collide Friday at 7 p.m.
