Boise State and Portland State haven't played since 2005 but that game should serve notice to the 2019 Broncos to not take the Vikings lightly.

In 2005 Portland State led the Broncos 14-13 with 8:03 remaining before Boise State scored the winning touchdown and two point conversion in a 21-14 win.

BSU's quarterback was Jared Zabransky who was 21-29 passing and BSU had 462 yards in that game to the Vikings 269 but it was a struggle on the scoreboard.

Sound familiar?

Portland State is 1-1 in 2019 beating Division II Simon-Simon Fraser 70-7 then losing at Arkansas 20-13. The Vikings are just 1-6 in games against Boise State but that doesn't mean they'll come into town tomorrow night and roll over.

In fact, if you go back to 1992, a game I'll never forget because I worked it on radio and the Vikings, led by head coach Pokey Allen, came into Boise and beat the Broncos 51-26. Two months later Pokey Allen was named the head coach at Boise State!

Portland State is one of three Big Sky teams facing ranked FBS opponents this weekend. Boise State is ranked 22nd while Idaho State is at 11th ranked Utah and Montana travels to number 15 Oregon.

Three other Big Sky teams also face FBS competition with Weber State at Nevada, Idaho at Wyoming and Cal-Poly at Oregon State.

It could be a statement week for the Big Sky or it could be a bust. Frankly Weber State and Cal-Poly are the only Big Sky teams with a chance to win but that's because Nevada and Oregon State are really hard to figure and if the ball takes some Big Sky bounces, the Pack and Beavers might not be able to bounce back.

Don't forget, Idaho at Wyoming can be heard on sports radio 630 The Fan Saturday, pregame at 2p.m. and kickoff from Laramie at 3 p.m.
