Stinky Sneaker Tradition
Alison Buck
Tonight 630 The Fan will be part of an expected capacity crowd at Meridian High school when the Warriors host the Mountain View Mavericks in a boys high school basketball game where the trophy is a stinky sneaker! The tradition began in 2005 and was designed to be a contest between teams, students and schools. The idea was the brainstorm of the late Randy Fout, a teacher at both Mountain View and Meridian and an assistant principle with Mountain View. The trophy is awarded to the school with the most spirit and while the contest concludes with the game Friday night it is a week long event. Students show spirit all week and they are judge at the game on how they cheer, how loud they cheer and the attire they wear to the game. The louder the better. The Stinky Sneaker award brings the best out of the students and the best from the athletes and we expect tonight's game to go right down to the buzzer. Join me at 7:30 on sports radio 630 The Fan as Mountain View and Meridian collide on the basketball court with the Stinky Sneaker award on the line.
