Idaho Prep Basketball Ready For Stretch Run
Idaho High School basketball deals with the holidays the best it can. Holiday tournaments are the norm right now but next week all the focus returns to conference play and making the district and state tournaments.
Case in point, there hasn't been a prep basketball media poll since mid December! That will change next week when new polls come out for both the girls and the boys.
As it stands right now the Timberline girls are setting the standard with a 10-1 record but Boise is right there as well at 10-2. Close behind is Mountain View at 9-2 and those three are expected to battle it out for district positioning in February.
In boys basketball the Rocky Mountain Grizzlies made a statement a week ago tonight when they beat then number 1 Borah at Borah in a game broadcast live on sports radio The Fan 105.5fm.
The Grizzlies are 9-1 and seem to be the heir apparent to the top spot when the new boys poll comes out next week. Borah is 8-1 as are the Meridian Warriors who will be part of the McDonald's game of the week next Friday on The Fan when they play at 5-2 Boise.
With the holidays in the rear view mirror it really does become a sprint to the finish in high school basketball. Districts begin by mid February and State Tournaments are done by March 7th.
The ladies have six teams with 6 or more wins and that could spell some upsets down the road.
The boys are more tightly packed with just 4 teams with six or more wins but who knows what the new year will bring.
Be sure and follow all the action with the McDonald's game of the week on sports radio 105.5fm The Fan.
