Idaho racing legend Davey Hamilton who cut his racing teeth at Meridian Speedway will be back in town this weekend and he won't be alone.

Joining Hamilton will be about 35 winged sprint cars and their drivers, all part of the King of the Wing Series. These winged rockets can reach speeds of nearly 100 miles per hour on the tight quarter mile oval in Meridian while all the time racing open wheel within inches of one another.

One miss calculation could spell disaster as these methanol burning race machines burst with power and rock the track. Hamilton, who continues his racing career as part Indy car owner/promoter would love to see the King of the Wing series go national.

The winged sprint cars will race both Friday and Saturday night and in addition track manager Adam Nelson says there will be plenty of other racing cars of all classifications both nights and after Saturdays racing card there will be fireworks as if the winged sprint cars weren't enough.

Nelson says the high horsepower spring cars stick to the track naturally because of their wings but he is looking to put a little stick'em on the track to help produce a 10 second qualifying lap which would set the all time record for the speedway.
