Vandal Football Goes Back to The Future Saturday
The Idaho Vandal Football team will play it's first Big Sky game since 1995 this Saturday when they travel to UC Davis to face the 2-1 Aggies.
Dropping from FBS to FCS status was not an easy decision to make but already the Vandals game against UC Davis is causing more conversation by far than any past Idaho-Troy or Vandal-South Alabama game when Idaho was part of the Sun Belt.
Start with the fact UC Davis is coached by former Boise State coach Dan Hawkins, that fact in itself is reason for any true Vandal to crave victory.
Plus, the Aggies have beaten San Jose State of the Mountain West and gave Stanford all it could handle in Palo Alto. It means the only real difference between many FBS and FCS. programs is one letter!
Down the road the Vandals will collide with Palouse rival and perennial FCS playoff participant Eastern Washington. Most Big Sky football fans already have the weekend of November 10th circled because Idaho will host Montana!
The move to the Big Sky also means the renewal of the Idaho-Idaho State series!
Idaho officials say the move to the Big Sky has definitely created more regional awareness and even increases in sponsorship.
Idaho's history in the Big Sky has created immediate rivalries upon their return, an instant excitement somewhat lacking in the Vandals Sun belt area.
Saturday 4 p.m. pre game and 5 p.m. kickoff here on sports radio 630 The Fan it's Idaho @ UC Davis as the Vandals go back to the future.
