In Northwest Baseball news, the Boise Hawks loose their season home opener while the Oregon State Beavers rally to play another day at the college baseball world series in Omaha.

The Boise Hawks opened their home baseball season Wednesday night with the Salem-Keizer Volcanoes in town and the game went right down to the final innings.

Diego Rincones of Salem-Keizer blasted a two run homer in the 8th inning lifting the Volcanoes to a 6-4 win.

The Hawks are now 3-3 on the year while Salem-Keizer improves to 4-2. The two teams play again tonight at Memorial stadium.

In Omaha at the college baseball world series the Oregon State Beavers rallied in the late innings to eliminate North Carolina 11-6.

The Tar Heels led 6-3 in the 6th and this season when North Carolina scored 6 runs or more they were 50-0.

Then a steady mist moved into the Omaha area and it seemed to revitalize a Northwest team used to playing in wet weather.

The Beavers exploded for 8 runs in the final 3 innings to advance to a Friday night showdown against Mississippi State.
