Vandals Long Road to Reno
The Idaho Vandal men's basketball team has take the long and windy road to Reno for their opening game in the Big Sky Basketball Tournament Thursday at 3:30 p.m. against Montana. You can hear that game on Sports Radio 630 The Fan.
The journey began nearly a week ago when the Vandals left Moscow via bus to catch a plane in Spokane. They flew to Phoenix and were greeted by another bus that took them to Flagstaff where they played Northern Arizona last Thursday. If you've ever driven from Phoenix to Flagstaff you realized it's all up hill climbing through several weather zones. Once we went from 75 degrees to a blizzard and 10 inches of snow.
After the game in Flagstaff it was back on the bus and off to Cedar City, Utah for a game with Southern Utah Saturday night. The fun didn't stop there because the Vandals boarded the bus after the game to Tonopah, Nevada where they got some shut eye and then Sunday bused to Reno where they'll hang out until Thursdays showdown with Montana.
It's a lot like the movie Trains, Planes and Automobiles but somehow how through it all the Vandals won both games and are on a roll as they head into the Big Sky Basketball Tournament. The Vandals have won four in a row and 11 of 13 since they began the Big Sky season at 1-3.
Idaho's Victor Sanders was named All-Big Sky first team. The junior guard is averaging better than 21 ppg.
