BSU-Idaho and the NFL Draft
The NFL Draft is Thursday and 630 The Fan is gathering at Buffalo Wild Wings on the Grove in downtown Boise for a Draft party from 5-7 p.m. and you are invited. We will be giving away 100 tickets to the Boise Music Festival.
The question is how many players with Idaho ties will get the call from an NFL team? The answer according to every mock draft is two. One from Boise State and one from Idaho.
The first of two expected to get a call is Boise State running back Jeremy McNichols and according to the mock draft I've chosen to follow McNichols would be the 131st pick overall, 24th in the 4th round and go to the New England Patriots.
You then have to skip to the 7th round, 224th overall to find the name of Idaho kicker Austin Rehkow who is being wooed by the NY Jets.
That's it for Idaho players in mock drafts. That doesn't mean things won't change and somebody like wide receiver Thomas Sperbeck or linebacker Tanner Vallejo both from Boise State might go late.
However, when you consider there are only a total of seven Mountain West conference players on most mock drafts it doesn't seem likely an 8th or 9th MW player would crack the top 253 which means free agent deals for them to get a chance.
Here now is a list of the Mountain West Players and their selection on at least one NFL mock draft site:
3rd Round-San Diego State Offensive guard Nico Siragusa 93rd pick overall to Green Bay....San Diego State cornerback Damontae Kazee 9th pick overall to Pittsburgh
4th Round-Boise State running back Jeremy McNichols 131st pick overall to New England...San Diego State running back Donnel Pumphrey 143rd overall pick to San Francisco
5th Round-Wyoming running back Brian Hill 150th overall pick to the NY Jets
6th Round-Air Force safety Weston Steelhammer 215th pick overall to Detroit
7th Round-Air Force wide receiver Jalen Robinette 228th overall pick to Dallas
