Boise State freshman Brian Humphreys won the Mountain West golf championship over the weekend becoming the first freshman in conference history to win the championship.

Humphreys finished the three day tournament at 204, that's 12 under par and two shots better than Donny Hopoi also of Boise State who finished second.

Humphreys posted rounds of 67, 68 and 69 as he became the first Bronco to win an individual conference title since Troy Merritt won the WAC crown in 2008.

The victory earns Humphrey's an automatic berth to the NCAA regionals.

The one/two finish for Boise State was good for a third place finish in the team standings, two shots behind UNLV and just one stroke behind Colorado State.
