Bryan Harsin Cites Reason to Beat Colorado State
Boise State football coach Bryan Harsin says the mentality going onto Fridays game at Colorado State is still to go 1-0 this week. In other words, no looking ahead to to the Mountain West Championship game December 7th against Hawaii.
Yes, as coach Harsin says that's cliche but it's worked all season to a 10-1 record. Still, the go 1-0 this week cliche wasn't enough for Harsin so he found another incentive to win.
If Boise State stumbles at Colorado State a New Years Six Bowl will be out of the question but not even that is even incentive for coach Harsin.
Coach pointed out that because of Boise State's success over the years it's hard to find a goal that would be a first for the program. Then he realized that no Boise State football team has gone undefeated in Mountain West play since the Broncos joined the conference. BSU is 7-0 in league and with a win Friday in Fort Collins can become the first team in Boise State history to sweep it's conference schedule.
It might just be the incentive needed to avoid a let down after clinching the division title Saturday in Logan and with everyone talking about the Championship game December 7th on the blue.
The weather Friday in Colorado is expected to be anything but good with snow and temperatures in the teens. Those conditions can work wonders towards an upset by the Rams in what really is the definition of a "trap" game.
Fortunately the Broncos running game is peaking at the right time and while Harsin isn't saying who will start at quarterback, all three are available to play.
I expect Jaylon Henderson to start because he;'s earned that privilege. As Harsin said this week, Henderson was picked by the coaches as the third string quarterback but that doesn't mean he's not number one and when given the chance to prove it, he has done just that with impressive performances against New Mexico and Utah State.
A Boise State win would earn the Broncos an 11-1 record against a schedule stronger than Memphis or Cincinnati, the two Group of 5 teams ahead of BSU in the rankings. Those two teams play Saturday so one will be eliminated from New Years Six bowl consideration. Eventually the Bronco's strength of schedule will bump them to the top of the Group of 5 pool but only if they win Friday and then close with a championship win over Hawaii on the blue December 7th.
