Amanda Knox Would Still Be In Prison If Not For A BSU Professor

Stillwater, starring Matt Damon and Abigail Breslin, tell the story of a father who travels from Oklahoma to France to free his daughter who is in prison for a murder she claims she did not commit. Sounds one part Taken, one part the real life story of Amanda Knox. In 2009, Knox was convicted for the 2007 murder of foreign exchange student Meredith Kercher in Italy. The murder case made international headlines and spawned countless movies. Hayden Panettiere played Amanda Knox in the Lifetime's version of events (Amanda Knox: Murder on Trial in Italy). Set to serve 26 years in prison for the crime, the plot twist no one expected is that Knox was wrongfully convicted.

While Amanda Knox has taken to the press to blast Damon's new film for exploiting her harrowing story for entertainment purposes, she must certainly be thankful for Dr. Greg Hampikian, a then professor of biology and criminal justice at Boise State. The nationally renowned DNA expert was on the Knox family advising team whose insight on how DNA as it pertained to the case helped overturn her conviction. I am most certainly not versed in explaining how, but this fascinating interview with Hampikian breaks it down.

I'd love to see a film detailing this instrumental piece of the puzzle to freeing Amanda Knox. I say with makeup, hair, and wardrobe, Joaquin Phoenix would make a great Dr. Greg Hampikian. And it's always awesome when there a positive light being shone on the people who make Idaho great.
