The thermometer says summer but the calendar says it's time for football! whether I was playing high school or college football I remember the dog days of August trying to get pumped up to put on all that equipment to run around a field with no shade in the middle of the afternoon and 90 degree or plus weather!

Coaches loved it because we sweat out all the fat from summer and quickly became warriors ready no matter what the weather or situation. Besides, but the end of November we were longing for the warmth of August...well maybe late September.

Boise State and Idaho will be among the many college football teams beginning fall camp this week as the temperature nears 100 degrees each day but the season is just about 5 weeks away and there is no time like the present to get ready.

Boise State football coach Bryan Harsin says the 2017 squad is an enjoyable group to work with and the Broncos are really trying to emphasis the "blue collar" mentality. This week, with the heat,  that'll be blue collar and red neck mentality.

Boise State opens the season September 2nd with Troy at Albertsons Stadium while the Idaho Vandals begin year August 31st by hosting Sacramento State, a game to be broadcast here on sports radio 630 The Fan.
