The Boise Hawks Get a “Do Over”
The first half of the NW League season was forgettable for the Boise Hawks. Of the first 38 games the Hawks won just 15 losing 23 and finishing dead last in the South Division of the Northwest League.
Among those 23 defeats a 6-5 loss to the Salem-Keizer Volcanoes last night, the Hawks seventh straight loss, six in a row to the Volcanoes who won the first half division crown with a 26-12 record, the best in the league.
Spokane took the North Division title at 22-16. So Spokane and Salem-Keizer have qualified for the post season playoffs, the format to be determined based on second half results.
That means a "do over" for every team in the league. Starting tonight everyone is 0-0. The Hawks will be at Eugene hoping to end their 7 game slide.
Right now the most exciting part of this season for the Hawks is the fact they'll host the All-Star game Tuesday August 6th. The game pairs the NW League All-Stars against the Pioneer League All-Stars.
Meanwhile it's new start for the Hawks who will play the second half of the season without their ace pitcher Frederis Parra. Parra was promoted to Class A ball and the Asheville Tourists. In fact, Parra is scheduled to pitch tonight against Greensboro. Parra was 4-0 with Boise with an ERA of .056. The Rockies quietly sent him to Asheville July 17th where he won his first start giving him a 5-0 season record.
Somehow the Hawks will have to win without Parra on the roster. That being said, it's nice to wake up to a clean slate and the Hawks hope to start the new season 1-0 by winning at Eugene tonight.
