Two overtimes, an alley-oop at the buzzer and a five point game! what a way to start the 5A State boys basketball tournament at the Ford Idaho Center.

The most shocking outcome of the opening round was Centennial's 75-71 win over #1 Madison in overtime. Madison had not lost to an Idaho team all season and was ranked #1 in the state from wire to wire during the regular season. Centennial players were they only folks who thought they had a chance and they jumped to a 17-3 lead and the rest is history.

As expected Madison didn't go down without a fight, they forced overtime but the Patriots hit 7 of 8 free throws and pulled the biggest upset of the tournament.

Now the spotlight falls on #2 Rocky Mountain who topped Bonneville 61-56. The Bees took the early lead in that game but Rocky Mountain had too much team depth and while 6-10 260lb Kolby Lee had just 9 points the Bee's had to double team Lee and that opened the door for other scorers like the driving Kobe Terashima with 19.

While many thought a Madison-Rocky final was inevitable now the door is open for Rocky Mountain to claim the championship but as the tournament has already shown, nothing is for certain.

Lewiston is next up for Rocky Mountain after they beat Mountain View 71-69 in overtime. Trystan Bradley was a monster down low with a double-double 24pts and 13 rebounds.

The final game of the opening round came down to a buzzer beating alley-oop as Post Falls beat Boise 54-52. Jake Pfennings, an Arizona State commit, took an alley-oop pass and dropped it in the net as the buzzer sounded and now Post Falls will face Centennial.

630 The Fan will broadcast both games live tonight starting at 6:15 with Rocky and Lewiston followed by Centennial and Post Falls. We'd love to see you at the Ford Idaho Center but if you can't make it, we'll see you on the radio.
