No.4 San Diego State Coming to Boise
The Boise State men's basketball team heads into the week with an 8-5 Mountain West record, tied with Utah State and Nevada with Colorado State 8-4.
Everyone chasing San Diego State, 13-0 in league and 24-0 overall. Today the Aztecs remained at no.4 in the latest AP college basketball poll despite being the only unbeaten team in division one basketball.
Baylor, Gonzaga and Kansas remain the top three so there is no wiggle room for the Aztecs to move up.
San Diego State actually has the largest lead of any basketball conference in the country so fellow members of the Mountain West are now left to battle it out for second place. A no.2 seed in the post season tournament is huge because you'd be protected from playing San Diego State until at least the championship game.
However, in Boise States situation they'll get no protection from the Aztecs this Sunday as BSU hosts San Diego State in league play at 2 pm. The game is one of two home games for the Broncos this week, the other being Air Force Tuesday at 7 pm.
Boise State had their 5 game win streak snapped Saturday at Utah State, a game where BSU was one call/bucket from the lead with under two minutes to play. Alex Hobbs appeared fouled as he drove to the basket for a contested lay-in for the lead. There was no call, the shot was missed, Utah State rebounded and scored and the end result was a 70-61 Utah State victory.
It was a game fraught with questionable calls which led to a pair of Broncos fouling out and remember, BSU was without Abu Kigab still nursing a hip pointer. Boise State coach Leon Rice has been resting Kigab in hopes he will be ready for San Diego State Sunday.
