The Mountain West began conference play this week, the first time league games have been played before the first of the year because the league tournament in Las Vegas next March was moved up a week.

Utah State, ranked 25th in the latest College basketball poll opened on the road at San Jose State winning 71-59.

Boise State was also on the road, losing 80-78 at New mexico. There were 17 lead changes in the game and BSU's JR Williams was ejected with five minutes to play for his second technical after having words with a Lobo player.

Other Mountain West openers saw Air Force beat Wyoming 86-77, San Doegio State stopped Colorado State 79-57 and UNLV outlasted Fresno State 81-80.

Boise State returns home to host Colorado State Saturday at 7pm. The start of the game was moved to accomodate Bronco fans attending the BSU-Hawaii Mountain West Championship football game at 2pm.
