Jay Ajayi Could be Answer to Ezekiel Elliott Holdout
The Dallas Cowboys reported to camp in Oxnard, California over the weekend without fourth year running back Ezekiel Elliott. Elliott is a contract holdout and Cowboys owner Jerry Jones today said he wasn't going to talk about on going negotiations or what they might do to fill the void.
Among those names being suggested is former Boise State star Jay Ajayi. The Philadelphia Eagles free agent was cleared medically last week to play following rehab of a knee injury and I guess because Dallas seems to be a stopping place for so many former Boise State players, throwing Ajayi's name into the hat was just inevitable.
Among those currently on the Dallas roster are: De Marcus Lawrence, Tyrone Crawford, Darian Thompson, Cedric Wilson and George Iloka.
Remember, Kellen Moore is the Cowboys offensive coordinator and is well aware of what Ajayi could bring to the table in Elliott's absence and as Elliott's backup if and when the two sides agree on contract terms.
Because of the injury NFL teams are being cautious with Ajayi fearing he'll tear up the knee again but still it appears Ajayi has received some interest from a few teams.
Meantime, here is a list of former Boise State players still on NFL rosters as of today:
