Like a lot of people I wasn't 100% confident the Idaho Horsemen would ever saddle up, never mind ride into the sunset of a perfect inaugural season in the American West Football Conference. The league consisted of only four teams, Idaho, Reno, Wenatchee and Tri-Cities.

There is no question the league overcame all the odds and with little pay, little media attention and a ton of hard work the American West Football Conference title is set to be played..

The Idaho Horsemen, 12-0 during the regular season, play the Reno Express this Sunday July 28th at the Ford Idaho Center in Nampa. Kickoff is set for 3:30 p.m. with a tailgating party starting at 11 a.m.

The Express and Wenatchee Valley Skyhawks each posted 6-6 records forcing a playoff game to determine a foe for the undefeated Horsemen.

Reno, who lost three times to Idaho in the regular season, won that first ever playoff game and hopes the fourth time is a charm against Idaho. I know, it's supposed to be the "third time is a charm" but there is a first for everything and with this league everything is a first!

Idaho beat Reno 58-31 then 58-18 in consecutive weeks. The two met again to close the regular season and this time Reno led the game well into the fourth quarter.

Idaho then scored 21 points in the final 8-minutes to pull the come from behind win 42-32.

If Sundays championship game even comes close to that type of excitement the curtain will certainly drop on a season that far exceeded even the most optimistic dreams of league officials and bode well the American West Football Conference will ride to see another season.
