The top two 5A high school football teams in Idaho both opened the season Thursday night with victories.

Rocky Mountain the defending 5A state champions beat Borah 35-15 but it wasn't easy. The game, broadcast on 630 The Fan, was tied 15-15 heading into the fourth quarter when Rocky exploded for 20 unanswered points, including a pick 6 interception in the final 30 seconds of the game.

Rocky Mountain running back Jordan Erickson scored three rushing touchdowns, good news for the Grizzlies who are trying to replace last years Gatorade Player of the Year in Nick Romano now at Idaho.

Meantime, the Mountain View Mavericks beat Timberline 46-6. The game was played at Mountain View despite originally being schedule for Dona Larsen park on Saturday.

Neither teams wanted to play Saturday so Timberline agreed to moving the game to Mountain View on Thursday.

A break for the Mavericks who are now on the same schedule as Rocky Mountain, the team they host next Friday in a pairing of No.1 vs. No.2.

That game will be broadcast as the McDonald's game of the week here on 630 The Fan at 7 p.m.

One quick note from the Rocky Mountain-Borah game. Borah's Austin Bolt played played four positions during the game: quarterback, safety, wide receiver and punter.

He finished the game on defense by picking two Rocky passes. On offense he ran for a touchdown, ran for a two point conversion and threw a 51 yard TD pass.

If Borah had 11 Austin Bolt's nobody would touch them!
