First Pro Homer is a Walk Off Grand Slam
The Colorado Rockies picked up Terrin Vavra in the 3rd round of the major league baseball draft and assigned him to the Boise hawks.
The Minnesota Gopher shortstop said it took a while to believe what just happened. Well it must have been deja vu last night because Vavra had a game most players can only dream about. The Boise Hawks trailed Vancouver 5-2 heading to the bottom of the 9th at Memorial stadium. Vavra, who had already driven in both Boise runs was slated to bat 5th if the inning lasted that long. A pair of singles and a walk led to a bases loaded opportunity for Vavra who walked to the plate and stroked the first home run of his professional career. It just happened to be a walk off grand slam homer that gave the Hawks a 6-5 win and sole possession of second place in the NW League's South Division. It was the most dramatic way anybody can end a baseball game and it was certainly the most dramatic finish the Boise Hawks have seen in a long time, if ever! You just know there was a fan or two who waited until the bottom of the 8th to call it quits and head to the car to beat traffic. They along with Vavra are still asking themselves right now...what just happened? The two teams play again tonight 7:15 p.m. at Hawks Memorial Stadium.
