District championship week for spring sports in high school athletics is a busy time and that was the case yesterday with Rocky Mountain wrapping up the 5A baseball title, the boys golf championship and with Eagle and Meridian advancing to the 5A Title game and both earning berths in the upcoming state tournament.

in baseball, Rocky Mountain beat Capital 5-0 to sweep that best of 3 District Championship series. Grizzly pitcher Gabe Hughes retired 16 of the last 20 batters he faced as Rocky Mountain improved to 19-5 heading into the State Tournament next week at Borah High.

In softball, Meridian beat Boise 12-2 and Eagle topped Capital 6-3 in District III 5A semi final action. Both teams have advanced to the State Tournament and to the 5A District title game Friday 6 p.m. at Boise High.

Eagle's Kelly Kukla had 2 homers and 4 RBI to pace the Mustangs while Meridian exploded for 6 runs in the top of the 7th to seal their 12-2 win over Boise.

in boys golf Rocky Mountain coasted to a 30 stroke win over second place Boise for the 5A District III title. Rockies Carson Barry led the way winning medalist honor with a 5 under par 67.

The 5A District III track and field meet begins Thursday at Mountain View with 4A action Friday and Saturday at Ridgevue.

State Tournaments are all scheduled for next week as the springs sports season comes to a close.
