Former Mountain View Basketball Star and current Maryland starter Destiny Slocum was voted Big 10 Freshman of the Year and to the All-Big Ten Second Team by the coaches and the media. Slocum averaged 11.1 points and 6.0 assists per game with an assist/turnover ratio of 2.0 in her rookie season. She led the Big Ten in assists in conference play with 7.5 assists per game. In 16 Big Ten games, she tallied 112 assists with just 48 turnovers.

Destiny shot 37.4 percent from outside the arc and needs to make one three-pointer to tie Kristi Toliver’s freshman record of 59 in 2006. Slocum has dished 168 assists this season, just three shy of the Maryland freshman record of 171.
