Boise State basketball coach Leon Rice has announced the hiring of former Utah State head basketball coach Tim Duryea (pronounced Dur-yea) as an assistant coach for the Boise State men's basketball team.

"Tim brings a wealth of experience and comes from a program that I've always respected," Rice said. "He's been to the NCAA Tournament several times and has diverse recruiting connections with his junior college background and Texas roots. He and his family will be a great addition to the Boise community and our basketball staff."

Duryea was head coach at Utah State for three seasons from 2015-18 and had been in Logan for a total of 17 seasons.

He coached one of the best backcourts in the Mountain West the past couple seasons in Koby McEwen and Sam Merrill – both of which were All-Mountain West Third Team selections in 2017-18. McEwen was also the 2016-17 Mountain West Freshman of the Year while Merrill shot 46.0 percent from behind the arc in two seasons with the Aggies.

Prior to becoming head coach, Duryea helped Utah State to six NCAA Tournament appearances (2003, 2005, 2006, 2009, 2010 and 2011) and five regular season conference championships in the Big West (2003) and Western Athletic Conferences (2008, 2009, 2010 and 2011).

As associate head coach from 2001-08, Duryea headed a Utah State offense that consistently shot a high percentage from the field and was renowned for taking care of the basketball, as shown by an assist-to-turnover ratio that was ranked in the top 25 in the NCAA multiple seasons.
