Mention the name Jimmer Fredette and every basketball fan will immediately tell you the BYU legend is one of the all time greats in college basketball!

Fredette holds the record for three point shots in a career with 296 making him one of the all time great outside shooters.

Saturday night Fredette will be looking over his shoulder because a guy named Justinian Jessup of Boise State is closing in fast on on the coveted three point record.

Jessup canned 5 three point shots earlier this week in BSU's 99-71 win over San Jose State leaving him at 294 career three's and a chance to make history Saturday night when the Broncos host Nevada.

The Broncos are coming off back to back wins by 34 and 28 points respectively and Jessup has been tickling the twine at a record pace. Much of the reason Jessup has been on target is a result of Boise State's ball movement and flow which simply set's the stage for scoring. BSU is 9-0 this season when scoring 80 or more points.

Given how the Broncos are playing there is no reason not to think Jessup won't at least tie Fredette Saturday night, if not make history!

Besides the Jessup focus, aside from San Diego State which is playing in a different league right now, the Mountain West is a logjam.

The Aztecs are 11-0 in league, UNLV 6-3 and then Boise State, Utah State, Nevada and Colorado State are all 6-4. Saturdays schedule however might well serve as a stick of dynamite to bust the logjam wide open.

6-4 Nevada @ 6-4 Boise State, 6-3 UNLV @ 6-4 Colorado State and 6-4 Utah State @ 11-0 San Diego State.

The battle for second place might well be more important than ever this year in regards to a berth in the NCAA Tournament. San Diego State is 22-0 overall, ranked 4th in the nation and if they continue in that regard and win the Mountain West post season tournament their success could well open the door for a second Mountain West team to make the dance.

So while it doesn't appear the Aztecs are catch-able in the regular season, someone might well ride their coat tales into the post season and right now that someone could be anyone of 5 teams!
