Boise State Men’s Basketball in a Zone!
Boise State beat San Jose State 99-71 Wednesday night in Mountain West basketball but the score only tells part of the story. The 28 point win is impressive, even more so when you consider the broncos are coming off a 34 point at Fresno State last Saturday.
The last time the Broncos won consecutive conference games by at least 25 was in 1988 when they beat Eastern Washington 92-52 (Feb. 25, 1988) and Nevada 89-61 (Feb. 27).
Did I mention Boise State canned a season high 11 three pointers vs. the Spartans and 5 of those were made by Justinian Jessup who has now moved to within two three pointers of tying the all time league career record of 296 held by Jimmer Fredette of BYU. Jessup, who had 21 points vs. San Jose State, can tie or become the career leader this Saturday when BSU hosts Nevada at 8 pm.
Speaking of trey's, in the last two games Boise State is 29-for-54 from three-point range (53.7 percent).
The outside shooting leads to points, 99 last night and the Bronco's have now scored at least 90 points in four games this season and are 9-0 when scoring 80 or better.
Derrick Alston led the way Wednesday with 27 points, the 12th time this year he's scored 20 or more. DA was 6 of 8 from three point land.
Meantime, RJ Williams scored 15 points to go with 13 rebounds for his seventh double-double of the season. All 13 of Williams’ rebounds came on the defensive end, a career high for defensive boards.
To say Boise State has owned San Jose State in basketball would be an under statement. The Broncos lead the all-time series against 33-3, including a 19-0 mark in Boise.
Elsewhere in Mountain West action Wednesday: No.4 San Diego State actually won in the "Pit" in New Mexico beating the Lobo's 85-57. New Mexico had been 13-0 at home this year but fell behind 20-4 last night and never recovered. The Aztecs are now 22-0.
Meantime Colorado State held on to beat Nevada 92-91 in Fort Collins. As mentioned next up for the Wolfpack is Boise State at Extra Mile Arena Saturday.
