Boise State Men And Women Open Basketball Season With Slam Dunks
Boise State hosted a basketball doubleheader Tuesday to open the 2019-20 season with the Bronco women beating Lewis Clark State 88-34 and the men blasting Life Pacific 126-49.
Both games had their share of records and highlights. Here are some game notes, first from the men's game:
Boise State started the 2019-20 season with a 126-49 win Tuesday, against Life Pacific at ExtraMile Arena. The 126 points are the most in program history, breaking a nearly-50-year-old record.
The previous Boise State single-game team scoring record was 118 points, set Jan. 25, 1971, against Portland State. Boise State’s 126 points Tuesday, are the third-most in a single game in Mountain West history.
It is the 39th 100-point game in school history, and the 14th under Leon Rice. The Broncos are 38-1 all-time when scoring at least 100 points, including a 29-0 mark in home games.
Boise State led 69-23 at halftime. The 69 points are the most in a half since at least 1986-87.
The 77-point margin of victory is a school record, and the second-largest margin of victory in Mountain West history.
Boise State made 17 three-pointers, making 17-of-31 attempts. The 17 triples are tied for fourth-most in program history. It is Boise State’s most since making 18 Jan. 24, 2018, against San Jose State
Seven Broncos scored in double figures. All five starters scored in double digits, joined by RayJ Dennis (14) and Max Rice (12) off the bench in their collegiate debuts.
Derrick Alston scored a game-high 25 points. Alston also tallied five rebounds, four assists, one steal and one block.
The Boise State men hit the road for game two Saturday in Eugene against the Pac 12 Oregon Ducks.

.Boise State has now won its past six season openers.Lewis-Clark State made just nine field goals in the contest, tied for the second-lowest figure all-time by a Bronco opponent.
Redshirt junior center Mallory McGwire scored the first Boise State bucket of the season...it was McGwire’s first points and field goal since the Spokane Regional Final against Notre Dame on March 26, 2018.
McGwire’s 3-pointer in the third quarter was the first of her collegiate career...she was 0-for-1 from deep over her two seasons at Oregon.McGwire scored nine of her 11 points during the Broncos’ 30-6 third quarter.
Junior guard Riley Lupfer hit one 3-pointer Tuesday, bringing her career total to 246...she is now just 14 behind Abby Vaughan’s (1999-2003) Boise State career record of 260
