Boise State Football Pretty Wound Up

Boise State football really needed this bye week. Not just to heal some inured players but some injured pride.

Granted, any college football tam can be beaten on any given week. Last week three top 10 teams lost including Oklahoma to Kansas State who hadn't beaten the Sooners in 23 years!

Boise State hoping to bounce back from a loss at BYU where the Broncos have lost three of the last four games despite an overall 7-3 record against the Cougars.

Unfortunately it's not that easy and head coach Bryan Harsin wasn't ready to handle any pointed questions when he held his weekly presser on Monday. Harsin started by addressing the media saying, and I paraphrase, We have no injury updates,(meaning we're not talking about Hank Bachmeier) any questions about San Jose State?

FYI, Bachmeier has been practicing this week, no surprise because while he didn't play at BYU, he was suited up.

Normally Harsin goes on for several minutes before taking questions, Monday wasn't one of those days.

Harsin also put the skids and which players would or wouldn't do interviews this week.  Harsin approved his true and tested players like Chase Hatata and John Molchon a pair of no nonsense lineman who wouldn't stray from the company line.

Make no mistake, the pressure is on as the Broncos begin a 5-week Mountain West stretch in November with three of those games on the road first at San Jose State this Saturday, Utah State in three weeks and the regular season closer at Colorado State November 30th. The two home games are Wyoming and New Mexico.

The Broncos are a 17 point favorite against San Jose State putting even more pressure and expectations on BSU. The Spartans are 4-4, coming off a win at Army and talking Bowl bid. San Jose State quarterback Josh Love is on fire and the Boise State defense simply hasn't shined intercepting passes.

Boise State is 13-0 all-time vs. San Jose State but the last time these two met, on the blue in 2016, Boise State fought to a 45-31 win. This 2019 version of SJS is better and they'll be looking to shock the Mountain West.

Everything points to all the pressure being on the Broncos and that has the coaching staff wound up pretty tight, players as well. Question is, will BSU explode and thrive Saturday or implode?

San Jose State has come up with some big plays this year and that should concern the Boise State defense. On drives were the Bronco defense gives up at least one play of more than 20 yards, opponents are scoring on 80% of those drives.

It's another late start, 8:30pm Boise time, that's a long day and so much to think about.
