Curtis Weaver, Boise State's "Sack Master" has been named a semifinalist for the Bednarik Award given by the Maxwell Football Club. Weaver is one of 20 semifinalists and one of just two from a Group of Five program (Utah State linebacker David Woodward).

Weaver currently leads the Mountain West and ranks third in the country with 9.5 sacks and is the current FBS active career leader with 30.0 sacks, 2.5 ahead of second-place Chase Young of Ohio State.

Oct. 5 at UNLV, Weaver had three sacks, raising his then-career total to 29.5 and becoming the Mountain West’s all-time leader. He passed the previous benchmark of 28.5 shared by BYU’s Jan Jorgensen (2006-09) and TCU’s Jerry Hughes (2006-09).

Weaver also ranks third all-time on Boise State’s sacks list, just 2.0 back of Chris Wing’s total of 32.0 in second place. Weaver also tied the Boise State single-game record with four sacks against Portland State on Sept. 14. The mark is shared with four others and was last accomplished by Wing in 1996, also against Portland State.

Boise State returns to action this Saturday traveling to the Bay Area to take on San José State (4-4) at 8:30 p.m. on the CBS Sports Network.
