Boise Marks Spot for X-Games

I remember when ESPN created the X-Games as alternative sports programing and I wondered how could this ever work. Shows you what I know!

The X-Games featuring extreme sports has become widely popular and this week the games come to Boise's Rhodes Skate Park for a major two day skateboard and cycling competition. It all begins Friday with qualifying at 2 p.m. but there's already activity at the park and road closures in the area as of 6 a.m. Wednesday.

Here is what is now closed:

15th Street from River Street to Grove Street. Westbound traffic can continue on River Street to Americana Boulevard.

16th Street from Front Street to River Street. Southbound traffic on 16th Street can turn right on Front Street.

The Boise X-Games are expected to draw upwards of 4,000 spectators and some of the top skateboarders and cyclers in the world compete for entry into the next round in Minneapolis.

Slowly but surely improvements have been made to the Rhodes Skate park to where it is now considered one of the best in the nation and will certainly be tested by the best this weekend.

By the time the event is done Saturday night the X-Game world will be more than aware of the park and Boise's commitment to sports like skateboarding and cycling.
