Rypien The Latest Bronco to Get an East-West Shrine Invite
Boise State senior quarterback Brett Rypien has accepted an invitation to play in the 2019 East-West Shrine Game. The game will be played January 19 at Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg, Fla. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. Mountain Time and the game will be televised by NFL Network.
Rypien joins Jim McMillan (1974), Bart Hendricks (2000), and Ryan Dinwiddie (2003) as Bronco quarterbacks invited to the East-West Shrine Game but as you can see below, a bunch of Boise State players have participated in this long time traditional game.
The 2018 Mountain West Offensive Player of the Year and a Wuerffel Trophy semifinalist, Rypien is the active FBS leaser in passing yards (13,581). The Spokane, Wash., native is the Mountain West’s all-time leader in passing yards, completions (1,036), and 300-yard passing games (21). The 300-yard performances are a Boise State record.
Rypien has completed 301 of 447 passes (67.3 percent) this season for 3,705 yards. He has tossed 30 touchdown passes and been intercepted just seven times.
He led the Broncos to a 10-3 record, including a Mountain West Mountain Division title. His final game in a Boise State uniform will come December 26 in the SERVPRO First Responder Bowl against Boston College at the Cotton Bowl stadium in Dallas.
