Boise State has played in two Poinsettia Bowls winning 55-7 over Northern Illinois In 2014 and losing 17-16 to TCU in 2008. The Poinsettia Bowl however is no longer an option for the Mountain West conference after the San Diego Bowl Game Association board of directors announced they would only move forward with the Holiday Bowl.

The decision ends a 12 year partnership with the Mountain West conference and leaves the league with just five bowl opportunities next year The five are the Las Vegas Bowl, New Mexico Bowl, Hawaii Bowl, Arizona Bowl and the Famous Idaho Potato Bowl.

Mountain West commissioner Craig Thompson says the league is already looking for other options for post season opportunities for the league.
