Mavericks Begin 5A Title Defense
The bye week was a luxury for the 5A defending state football champion Mountain View Mavericks but tonight it's back to business.
Mountain View will host the Rigby Trojans and 630 The Fan will be there to bring you all the play by play. Jared Zabransky and I will have the call kickoff at 7pm.
Last year Rigby was just a bump in the road to the Mavericks 5A title as Mountain View rolled past the Trojans 50-0. Expect Rigby to put on a much better showing tonight.
Rigby is making it's second straight trip to the Treasure Valley after beating Borah 35-21 a week ago at Donna Larsen Park. They feature a bruising runner in Braden Youngstrom who has more than 2,000 all-purpose yards and 24 touchdowns this year.
Mountain View on the other hand averages nearly 40 points per game and counters with running back Caden Hansen who has more than 12-hundred rushing yards.
Also tonight in 5A Rocky Mountain will be at Eagle and the winner of that game will host tonight's Capital at Highland winner in the semi finals.
Up north where the weather is freezing Coeur d'Alene will host Madison and the winner gets to host Rigby or Mountain View in the semi finals. That's right, somehow the defending state 5A champion will have to travel for at least one game if they beat Rigby.
If Rigby wins the Trojans get to travel for a third straight week.
