If you're a fan of "vibrantly colored and citrus-flavored" drinks, you may want to reconsider consuming those tasty drinks going forward following an announcement from the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

We've been poisoning our bodies and didn't know it...

On November 2, the FDA announced that they "proposed to revoke the regulation authorizing the use of brominated vegetable oil (BVO) in food."

BVO is exactly what it sounds like - vegetable oil that has been modified by bromine. If you're like some of us and didn't pay too close attention in science class in school, you might be asking what bromine is.

According to the Centers for Disease Control, bromine is a naturally occurring element and is brownish-red in color - it also has an odor resembling bleach. Red flag, anyone?

The CDC also says that bromine is used in agriculture, sanitation, and even as fire retardants. Even crazier, bromine was once used in sedatives and can even be used as a substitute for chlorine in your pool.

So, what does brominated vegetable oil do to our bodies and what drinks will we be saying goodbye to?

Let's look at the effects and some of the 70 drinks that will no doubt be taken off the shelves sooner than later.
