Hawks 2-2 Come Home Tuesday
The Boise Hawks are 2-2 on the new season following a doubleheader split with the Spokane Indians last night.
In Game one, Boise got out of the gates quickly scoring three runs in the 2nd inning on their way to a 3-1. Bobby Wernes homered to start the inning off starter Alex Speas, then added two more runs to close the deal.
Game two was a different story as Spokane wasted no time to get the bats swinging after struggling through much of game one as they roughed up Boise starter Luis Guzman. Guzman did not have his normal stuff in the game as he allowed seven runs in the first inning off of 5 hits and two walks.
Guzman only pitched in the 1st inning. Relievers Austin Moore and Cristian Quintin took the reigns the rest of the game. Moore tossed two consecutive one-two-three innings and then ran into trouble in his 3rd inning of work where he gave up 2 runs on three hits. Quintin was strong through two innings of work while only giving up one run.
Spokane pitcher Reiver Sanmartin picked up his first win of the season pitching in the game while throwing five scoreless innings and striking out six Hawks batters. Reliever Jacob Rogers came on for the final two innings and struck out every batter he faced in both innings. Guzman took the loss in game two.
The Hawks will take on Spokane again Monday at 6:30 p.m. PT in the rubber match at Avista Stadium. Boise opens the home season Tuesday against the Eugene Emeralds.
