Grizzlies and Hawks No. 1 Oh My!
The high school baseball season is new but the teams to beat are the same. In 5A the Rocky Mountain Grizzlies received 10 of 12 first place votes from the coaches to rank first. Timberline received the other first place ballots to rank second.
Capital, Mountain View and Eagle complete the coaches baseball top 5.
In 4A Skyview collected 5 of 8 first place votes to rank first, Bishop Kelly is second with 2 first place ballots and Vallivue third receiving the final first place vote.
Middleton and Caldwell complete the top 5.
Rocky Mountain, 22-5 last year is now 10-2 this season as they compete in a spring tournament in Arizona. In fact both Grizzly losses are to a team from Monarch, Colorado.
As for Skyview the Hawks, 24-5 last year are just 3-4 this season but that's the same record as second ranked Bishop Kelly. Vallivue meantime is off to a 6-2 start and may well be the dark horse in 4A baseball.
Most valley teams are either competing out of state in spring break games are in the annual Bucks Bags Spring classic being played at six sites across the Treasure Valley.
A total of 33 teams registered for this years spring classic and combined will play a total of 65 games before the round robin tournament ends on Saturday. Each team plays three games.
