Not every state drops something at 11:59pm on New Year's Eve, and it's probably because they don't have something as interesting as our potato to throw down.  So let's get out there Sunday and appreciate our giant spud.

Check out the details here on the Idaho Potato Drop.

No other state combines fireworks and live music with a giant spud drop like we do.  Oh, and the USASA-sanctioned “Big-Air Rail Jam,” and which is a cutting-edge snow park that Idahopotatodrop.com says combines crank pulleys, kickers, rails and quarter pipe.  The tuber luge is open from 1 to 8pm, and it's open to kids and adults.  There are activities happening all day long, with the giant potato drop happening at  midnight to wrap it all up.

Gates open at 1pm with performances from the Boise School of Rock starting things off, and the live music on the Main Stage runs all day and into the evening.  The McCall Winter Carnival features the Live Ice Sculpture Show, and that runs from 1 to 11pm.  And you can watch pro wrestlers starting at 3:15, and if you take a non-perishable food donation it will help the Idaho Food Bank. It might be a little chilly for those wrestling outfits, but they are tougher than we are and I'm sure they'll handle it well.  For a good cause.

Tents will be set up between 6th and 8th Streets, bordered by Bannock and Jefferson right in front of the State Capitol.  It's free to get in.

Whether you're kicking 2017 in the pants and wishing it good riddance, or just excited about the arrival of 2018, ain't no party like an Idaho Potato party.  We'll see you there, and we'll watch for your spud pics on social media.  Happy New Year.
