Eastern Washington: Lone Standing Big Sky Team
The FCS playoffs continue this weekend with semi final action and only Eastern Washington remains to represent the Big Sky conference.
The Big Sky was hoping for an all league semi final with either Eastern Washington or U.C. Davis playing at Weber State but the Wildcats were upset 23-18 by the Maine Bearcats who after traveling to Ogden, Utah, then back to Maine will head back out west to Cheney, Washington for a showdown against the Eagles of Eastern Washington.
EWU topped U.C. Davis 34-29 in the wildest finish of all four quarter final games.
Tied 14-14 at the half Eastern and Davis went back and fourth until with 1:13 remaining in the fourth quarter, U.C Davis scored a touchdown and two point conversation to take a 29-28 lead.
The Eagles in return drove down the field and with just :26 seconds remaining scored on a 35 yard touchdown run by Sam McPherson to win 34-29. Eastern Washington scored 20 fourth quarter points.
Eastern Washington improves to 11-2 while Maine is 10-3. They'll collide Saturday December 15th at noon mountain time.
The other semi final game pairs #1 and top seeded North Dakota State and South Dakota State to be played Friday December 14th at 5pm MST.
The FCS playoffs began with 24 teams, is down to just four and the two winners this weekend will collide January 6th in Frisco, Texas for the national FCS championship.
