Apparently the Cooper Rush era has begun in Dallas and that is not good news for Boise State icon Kellen Moore who was released today. Moore can still return as practice-squad eligible if he clears waivers, though.

The Cowboys announced Thursday afternoon they had released Moore, who was inactive Sunday vs. the 49ers as undrafted rookie Cooper Rush got his first career playing time in the regular season. With the release of Moore Dallas signed tight end Blake Jarwin to its active roster.

Moore didn't initially make Dallas' 53-man roster after training camp. The team kept on the rookie Rush instead, noting that as a veteran Moore wouldn't need to clear waivers in the same way Rush would. They ended up re-signing the vet who has spent many years with offensive coordinator Scott Linehan, on a $775,000 contract.

Moore remained on the active-roster through the bye week until Sunday when Rush not Moore saw playing time against San Francisco.

Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said the chance to give Rush time in a blowout vs. the 49ers cemented that decision. He also said the team would wait and see how the roster moves affected Moore's long-term status with the team.

"It was just too good an opportunity to give Cooper Rush some snaps," Jones said adding "He hadn't had any in an accountable NFL game."

"He's shown that he's got real ability under pressure, and you can't coach that. That experience just gives him another notch in his belt. I think it's good. We have a good situation at our backup quarterback right now."

The Cowboys signed Rush after he went undrafted this spring out of Central Michigan. He outperformed Moore in the preseason and Cowboys VP Stephen Jones said Rush would more than likely be Dallas' backup QB the rest of the season.
