Boise State Eyes Nevada Rematch
The Boise State men's basketball team won their first one possession game of the season Tuesday night in Ft. Collins beating Colorado State 70-68. The Broncos had previously lost five one possession games this season. The broncos are 5-3 in leagie and 10-11 overall.
The Broncos led 67-60 with 43 seconds to play, but a couple Ram threes coupled with a few missed Bronco free throws eventually gave Boise State the 70-66 lead with under 10 seconds remaining, but a CSU player was fouled on the pending possession with under a second to play.
CSU made the first two before purposely missing the third in an attempt to secure the game-tying tip-in, but the Ram tip-in went off the front rim, giving the Broncos the 70-68 win.
Justinian Jessup was sensational in his return to his home state, finishing with team highs in points (20), assists (6) and rebounds (5).
Alex Hobbs was the team’s No. 2 scorer with 17 points. Hobbs also chipped in four assists and four rebounds.
In a couple of other notes:
The two-point victory breaks up a run of bad luck for the Blue and Orange in 2018-19 and marks the first one-possession win for the Broncos this season. The team is now 1-5 in games decided by three or less points this season.
Boise State finished the night 26-of-45 from the field. The 57.8 percent shooting night marks the team’s second-highest shooting percentage of the season.
Boise State is 62-5 under head coach Leon Rice when shooting 50 percent or better from the field in his tenure.
Boise State is now 3-1 in conference road games this season.
The Broncos play at Nevada Saturday, Feb. 2. Tip is scheduled for 4 p.m. MT and the game will broadcast on CBS Sports Network.
Nevada is ranked 8th in the nation at 20-1, the Pack is 7-1 in league play after beating UNLV Tuesday in Las Vegas 87-70.
