Destiny Slocum of Mountain View high school and the Maryland Terrapins is the National freshman of the year in women's college basketball. The honor is given by the Women's Basketball Coaches Association.

Slocum started 34 games as Maryland's freshman point guard and averaged a team high 30. minutes a game, 33.7 minutes in conference action.. Slocum averaged 11.5 points per game and 6 assists a contest and along the way set a Maryland freshman record for three pointers made with 71.

Slocum was also named the Big 10 freshman of the year.

The National freshman of the year honor is the first for any Idaho athlete at that level and another testament to Slocum's basketball skills.

The two time 5A player of the year in Idaho never ceased to amaze from a 65 foot overhead swoosh against West Virginia in the NCAA tournament to 23pts against the UCONN Huskies.

As Maryland head coach Brenda Frese said, "I can't believe we have her for three more years"!
