Troy Merritt opened the Travelers PGA Tournament with a 65 and closed with a 66 and was in contention all week at the TPC Highlands Course in Cromwell, Connecticut.

The former Boise State golfer finished 8 under par, just four strokes behind winner Jordan Spieth, to take home $176,800.

Merritt wasn't the only former Boise State golfer to show well over the weekend. Graham Dalaet also opened with a 65 but had a +2 72 on Saturday to fall back but still finished 5 under for the tournament and won $46,278.

Merritt struggled on Saturday with a 73, otherwise he shot 65, 68 and 66 certainly a great tournament confidence builder heading into the remainder of the PGA season.
