Gonzaga in The Mountain West?
William Mancebo
A report from San Diego claims the Gonzaga Bulldogs are thinking about leaving the West Coast Conference for the Mountain West Conference.
According to the Union-Tribune Mountain West commissioner Craig Thompson didn't confirm any move but did confirm the move has been explored.
Some say the Zags could joint the Mountain West as early as next season!
Gonzaga is currently ranked 7th in the nation and they've been to 19 consecutive NCAA post season tournaments. Gonzaga would be to Mountain West basketball what Boise State is to Mountain West football.
Now here's another question, would BYU follow Gonzaga from the West Coast Conference to the Mountain West and if BYU basketball was in the Mountain West would their currently independent football program follow suit?
As always I get way ahead of myself so lets talk just Gonzaga basketball joining the Mountain West.
The addition of the Bulldogs would elevate the entire league and it's national exposure. Besides it would renew a solid rivalry between BSU and Gonzaga. The last time the two played was 17 seasons ago but the overall series is 34 games strong with Boise State leading 18-16.
If BYU came along for the ride....the Mountain West would be quite the basketball conference!
