Boise State: Another One Possession Miss!
It happened again, the Boise State men's basketball team losing a one possession game falling at New Mexico 73-72. Boise State is now 1-9 in games decided in overtime or by one possession.
Once again the Broncos had a chance to win after New Mexico missed two free throws with nine seconds to play, but the visitors couldn’t get a shot off as time expired, giving the Lobos the one-point victory.
The nine such losses are the most for any Mountain West team since the Broncos joined the conference in 2011-12.
Once again Boise State seemed confused and undeceive in the closing seconds. Head coach Leon Rice tried to call a time out to regroup but time ran out!
Justinian Jessup and Derrick Alston were the bright spots at the Pit as they tied for the team high in points with 23 each.
Jessup hit a season-high five 3-pointers and also recorded team highs with six rebounds, four assists and two steals. He now has 222 career threes, passing Jeff Elorriaga (221) for fifth place in program history.
The Broncos’ losing streak is now at six games, the longest for the team since dropping eight straight in 2011-12.
The loss means that Boise State is now 6-11 in MW play, putting them in ninth place in the league standings.
The Broncos play their final game of the regular season this Saturday, March 9 when they welcome Air Force to Taco Bell Arena for a 5 p.m. tip.
Boise State will honor its two seniors – Zach Haney and David Wacker – prior to the game.
