21-0 Run Paces Boise State to Victory Over Bonnies
The Boise State Broncos beat St. Bonaventure 72-52 Wednesday at the Cayman Island Basketball classic in George Town, Garnd Cayman.
…Boise State was sensational in the second half against St. Bonaventure, outscoring the Bonnies 42-28 in the latter 20 minutes to solidify the 72-52 win for the Blue and Orange Tuesday night at the Cayman Islands Classic.
…After taking a 30-24 lead at the half, Boise State began the second half on a 21-0 run to take the 51-24 lead at the 12:35 mark in the second. The Blue and Orange didn’t look back from there, as they finished the game shooting 58.1 percent from the field (25-of-43).
…The Broncos knocked down a season-high 13 threes (13-of-24, 54.2%), which was the most triples for the team since hitting 14 at home against Air Force last season (Feb. 17, 2018).
…Derrick Alston led the way with a career-high 22 points. He finished the game 6-of-7 from behind the arc and played a team-high 37 minutes.
…Justinian Jessup recorded a season-high 19 points while also tallying game highs in rebounds (9) and assists (5).
…RJ Williams was the other Bronco in double digits, as he finished the game with 10 points and eight rebounds. Williams has now scored in double figures in all four games he has played in as a Bronco.
…Boise State recorded a season-high 16 assists, as well. The Blue and Orange also recorded a season high in turnovers (21). The Broncos turned it over 13 times in the first half – the most turnovers in a half since also committing 13 against Illinois State last season (Nov. 17, 2017) in the second round of the Puerto Rico Tip-Off at Myrtle Beach.
…After trailing for the better part of the first half, Boise State settled in and claimed its first lead of the game (18-16) at the 7:16 mark in the first after Alston knocked down a three.
...The Broncos shot 58.1 percent (25-of-43) from the field against the Bonnies. The field goal percentage was the highest of the season and the highest since going 38-of-64 (59.4%) against New Mexico (Jan. 3, 2018).
…The Blue and Orange also cleaned up on the glass, outrebounding St. Bonaventure 35-20 (+15). The +15 margin was a season high.
