If you went to Meridian High School in the late '90s, you may have recognize a familiar face on Tuesday's episode of "Live with Kelly and Ryan!"

Update: Strasser was successful! He was able to up his own record by six pencils! Read on to learn more about his appearance on the show earlier this week.

The dynamic morning talk show duo kicked off "Record Breaker Week" on Monday. Each day this week, the show will attempt to break a record from the Guinness Book of World Records. Sometimes that means participating in the record attempt. Other times, it means inviting someone onto the set to try to break their own record.

On Tuesday, September 21, they're inviting Joel Strasser to the set to break his own world record for "most pencils in a beard." His current record stands at 450 and was set on New Year's Eve. According to West Ada's post about the episode, Strasser is 1998 Meridian High School. He now lives in Washington State.

Strasser also holds records for most baubles in a beard, toothpicks put into a beard in one minute, toothpicks put in a beard, most clothespins on a beard, most golf tees in a beard, most chopsticks in a beard, most paper straws in a beard and most forks in a beard. Those last two records he set in Meridian.

According to his friend, Hollywood Hair Guy and fellow beard enthusiast, Dean Banowetz, Strasser's obsession with sticking things in his beard was inspired by his students. When they started to lose focus in the classroom, Strasser would start sticking pencils in his beard to get their attention back on him.

The two bearded men faced off in a challenge earlier this year to see which one of them could stick the most bobby pins in their beards over the course of sixteen hours. Banowetz came away with the win and a new world record, but the record rally wasn't what the challenge was about. When Banowetz and Strasser discovered that both of them had recently lost friends to cancer, they decided to stage the challenge as a fundraising event for the children who lost their mothers.

Strasser's fundraiser is for Melissa Anderson's family. Anderson was diagnosed with colon cancer shortly after giving birth to her son. She passed away at the age of 40 a year after her diagnosis. Through the bobby pin challenge, Strasser has been able to raise over $12,000 for Anderson's husband, Joseph and the couple's two children. The goal is to use this money to set-up a college fund for the kids. The fundraiser is still open if you'd like to donate and read more about Anderson's family.

The duo hopes to raise $100,000 for each family and when they eventually reach that goal, Strasser will allow Banowetz to cut his record setting beard off. Banowetz is a well known stylist who has worked on American Idol, Dancing With the Stars, America's Got Talent and award shows like the Grammys and ESPYs.
