But humans should be aware of and avoid possible infection, as the virus is deadly to a small percentage of people. Reports show that 70 to 80 percent of humans infected with West Nile will be asymptomatic (show no signs of sickness). Those with symptoms experience headache, weakness, rash, or gastrointestinal symptoms. The fatality rate of West Nile is about 10 percent.
