No One Agrees On Idaho’s Tallest Bridge. Why The Controversy?
Tall bridges are remarkable examples of science, engineering, and art coming together to create something useful for many people. Trains carry cargo and people across them, and trucks carry lumber, groceries, clothes, and other items. We use them to get to Disneyland, Las Vegas, and even to work and back. Bridges come in all shapes and sizes. Some are more spectacular than others. The Golden Gate Bridge has been the focus of paintings and photographers; the Brooklyn Bridge appears in every movie set in New York, and the bridges in Madison County, Iowa, inspired a book about a woman's affair in the 60s.
We have several impressive bridges in Idaho, although I'm not sure any have inspired a morally questionable romantic novel. The Dent Bridge in Orofino was built to support logging trucks. For some of the year, part of the bridge is underwater.

The Perrine Bridge spans the Snake River in Twin Falls and has become a popular spot for BASE jumping because it's one of the few places that doesn't require a permit.
While none of Idaho's bridges compare to the height of the Royal Gorge Bridge in Colorado or the Millau Viaduct in France, Idaho's bridges are more practical than tourist attractions. For example, the Dent Bridge is essential to the logging industry.
No, Idaho's bridges may not be famous, but they serve a purpose and combine engineering and art. However, the title of Idaho's Tallest Bridge is a bit controversial. While the Dent Bridge is for part of the year, the Perrine Bridge is taller the rest of the year. It all depends on how high the Dworshak Reservoir is beneath the Dent Bridge in Orofino.
