What’s Up With The Shoes On The Fence Posts On Kuna Mora Road?
If you travel the Kuna Mora backroad, you've seen them. Various forms of footwear on top of fence posts along the route. Footwear of all sizes and shapes. Tennis shoes, basketball shoes, cleats, work boots, women's shoes, even Crocs and flip-flops.
At first glance, I thought, well, someone must of hung them there to dry after getting wet. But then I saw more and more fence posts topped with more footwear, some in pairs, others just a solo shoe or boot.

The first question is why? The answer?
According to an old Youtube video posted by KTVB, nobody seems to have the answer. Instead, several logical and illogical explanations have been passed down as urban legend and local lore.
One story explains that it's nothing more than a High School prank. And locals and travelers added to the odd roadside spectacle without even know why they were doing it.
Others believe local ranchers did it to prevent rain water from seeping into the wood posts and inhibiting rotting and according to this Brightside article, they could be tributes from ranchers after the passing of a friend or even a trusty steed.
The same KTVB Youtube story also refutes the rumor it has something to do with the proximity of the Idaho State Correctional Complex.
And perhaps that the real explanation. A simple act of someone putting a shoe on a fence post and someone asking why.

Then, simply just letting people use their own imagination to come up with a reason why. Seems harmless enough and something fun to look out for while passing by.
